(Express Photo)The Faridabad Crime Branch Friday arrested two people, including the alleged mastermind, in connection with the recent robbery at the Trikuta Metals plant in Sector-2.
On the intervening night of November 23 and 24, a group of at least five masked men stormed the plant, tied up the lone security guard, and fled with 2,110 kg of copper, a pickup van and two LED televisions worth around Rs 25 lakh.
The police have identified the arrested men as Sandeep Suman, 42, and Suraj, 39, both residents of Bihar’s Munger district. The two were nabbed from the Faridabad railway station while they were waiting to catch a train to Bihar.
According to investigators, Suman had worked at Trikuta Metals until six months ago, and currently worked as a security guard in Pyala village in Faridabad district.
“Strapped for cash, he hatched the plan and roped in accomplices from his village… The entire loot has been recovered from the accused,” Varun Kumar Dahiya, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Faridabad, said Saturday while addressing a press conference.
A police spokesperson added that Sandeep has a murder case registered against him in Bihar and has previously served jail time. Suraj had recently come to Faridabad looking for work and was pulled into the crime by his fellow villager.
The two will be produced in court later on Saturday to press for police custody.
Further interrogation of the accused was underway to identify the four to five members of the gang who are still at large.
A case was first registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Mujesar police station based on the complaint of the plant owner.
The crime branch took over the investigation and cracked the case within a week using technical surveillance and informant inputs, officers said.
