Judges would soon have special de-stress halls and common dining rooms in all five district courts in the Capital to unwind and fight stress levels,as per a proposal cleared by the High Court.
Work has already begun to build such rooms after earmarking the area in each court complex and identifying their specific needs.
The proposal was mooted since some judges, caught up with the huge pile-up of cases, handle more than 100 matters a day.
While the authorities have previously held get-togethers and de-stressing camps involving musical evenings and yoga among others to facilitate recreation, the idea to build special rooms and corners for the judges to unwind came up last year. The concept got a concrete shape earlier this year and funds were subsequently arranged after the requisite nod from the High Court.
The authorities are yet to firm up the activities to be conducted in the de-stress halls but officials with knowledge about the proposal say music, yoga and meditation are among the activities that have almost made it to the list.
Another issue bothering the authorities was the communication gap between judges despite functioning in the same court complex and working closely. It was felt that improved interaction between them not only would help build up the working atmosphere but would also reduce confusion. Combined dining halls are thus seen as a solution to raise the level of interaction between judges .
Court complexes in many western countries have provisions for recreational activities of judges.
