Soft skills and English training for 300 personnel, a comprehensive traffic plan, 10,000-strong deployment: The Gautam Buddh Nagar police has kicked off preparations for the first-ever Moto Grand Prix race in India.
The event, slated from September 22-24 at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, will be organised by Fairstreet Sports. It is expected to see a footfall of around 1.5 lakh people including over 10,000 foreign visitors, business people, dignitaries, and national and international media persons.
During a meeting Thursday, Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh directed officials to come up with a detailed plan on security, traffic management, VIP security and diplomatic protocol for the programme.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Anand Kulkarni; DCP (Greater Noida) Saad Miya Khan; staff officer Hirdesh Katheriya were present at the meeting along with other sub-inspectors and constables.
Said Kulkarni, “A total of 300 police personnel — sub-inspectors, head constable and constables — will be provided soft skills’ training which will start within 10 days. As this is a global event, the group will be provided English speaking training classes so they can easily communicate with foreigners. The training will likely be held at Sharda University.”
He further said 100 personnel from each zone have been selected by DCPs for deployment at the venue: “Usually, in such events, visitors face problems accessing basic amenities such as washrooms and food stalls, and in directions. This special team will assist them. They will also be trained in basic security measures such as checking, frisking, observation, profiling etc. They will act as the police interface in maintaining law and order at the event,” said the official.
Police are also working on a comprehensive traffic plan to avoid any congestion during the event. “We are going to conduct a special survey of the area to ascertain the main sources of the traffic such as factories, establishments etc. We will stop (entry of) heavy and commercial vehicles as per requirement. Traffic on different routes will also be diverted as there will be heavy VIP movement. Additional CCTVs will be installed on the route,” Kulkarni added.
He said a total of 10,000 police personnel will be deployed at the event.
“We had a meeting with the event organiser who will share their plan by Monday. We will also hold a meeting with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority to discuss issues related to roads, streetlights, trees etc. to ensure smooth traffic. There are already three helipads near the venue, we are yet to figure out if more helipads are required. We will also hold a meeting with the Delhi Police to coordinate arrangements for VIPs as a lot of them will be landing at the Delhi airport,” said the officer.
