A day after Israeli diplomat Tal Yehoshua-Koren was injured in a targeted attack, security has been stepped up outside the embassy and across the New Delhi police district.
Sources said Israeli diplomats have been told to avoid the use of embassy vehicles, and opt for taxis instead.
Security outside the embassy at 3,Aurangzeb Road, was so tight on Tuesday that pedestrians were not allowed to walk on the pavement there.
Checks have been increased on the roads as police hunt for a red motorcycle, reportedly used for the attack.
Israeli officials are stationed along the stretch from the Q-Point till the Claridges Hotel roundabout, said an officer.
About 15 personnel have been deployed outside the embassy, said the officer.
Apart from the regular 24×7 PCR vans,a Quick Reaction Team and a Diplomatic Security Force Gypsy have also been deployed.
Spokesperson for Israel Embassy David Goldfarb said,I cannot comment on the personal security of our diplomats,as it is something I cannot make public. But I can say that the Delhi Police is fully cooperating with us,and is doing a good job. We will continue working in India and will not let Iran spoil our relations with this country. On one side, there are two countries existing in good harmony with one another, and on the other side is a country supporting terror in the world.
Tal Yehoshua-Koren,who works in the accounts department of the embassy, was on way to fetch her three children from the American Embassy School in Chanakyapuri, when she was attacked.
After this, the embassy staff were told to refrain from using cars with CD registration plates. Diplomats and their families will continue using taxis till they are issued instructions otherwise, said an embassy official.
Commissioner of Police B K Gupta said,We have augmented security in all places frequented by Israel nationals. We are in touch with their security officials. SWAT commandos of the Special Cell too have been deployed.
