Woman killed in Noida society lift collapse
The elevator did not hit the ground but was caught between some of the middle floors of the building, a police official said about the incident that took place around 4.30 pm in the high-rise society located in Sector 137.

In a horrific accident at a high-rise society in Noida Sector 137, a 70-year-old woman died after the lift collapsed midway. The incident took place in Paras Tiera society Thursday.
Police said the victim, Sushila Devi, was taking the lift to the eighth floor, when the wire snapped and it collapsed. She was immediately rushed to Felix hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival by doctors.
Police said she received injuries to the head but the main reason for the death would be ascertained after the postmortem.
Devi was living with her son and daughter-in-law in Tower 24. She was alone in the lift.
DCP (Central Noida) Anil Kumar Yadav said, “We received information of the incident at 7.15 pm. A police team reached the spot, where it was told that the incident took place around 6 pm and the woman died in the hospital. A complaint is being received against the Apartment Owners Association (AOA) president of the society. Further legal action is being taken.”
Following the incident, hundreds of residents of the society gathered and protested against the AOA.
“Residents were demanding that the society president resign immediately. Senior police officers present at the spot tried to resolve the issue. The president was with police. His health took a turn and he had to be taken to a hospital,” added the DCP.
However, residents alleged that the AOA president does not listen to their issues. “This incident was bound to happen. Here, people have to wait for 30 minutes to take the lift. Every day, a lift breaks down but no one listens to us,” claimed Sandeep Kumar who lives in Tower 12.
“I am paying Rs 2,700 per month as maintenance. Any time there is a water seepage, plumbing or any issue, nobody from the administration pays heed to our worries,” claimed Kumar, who works in a private company in Noida.
The AOA president was unavailable for comment.
