The Delhi Police on Friday night arrested two sisters for allegedly attacking a fellow resident of their residential society in East Delhi and his family following a dispute over honking.

The accused have been identified as Bhavya Jain, 23; and Charvi Jain, 21, residents of Anekat Apartment society in the Vasundhara Enclave area. According to police, on Diwali night, the sisters attacked retired Uttar Pradesh deputy superintendent of police Ashok Sharma, who stays in the same society, after he asked them to stop honking. The following day, on November 1, they again allegedly attacked Sharma’s family members, including his wife Shanti Sharma and daughters Pratibha and Reena, with a knife.

Subsequently, the New Ashok Nagar police station was informed, and a team rushed to the spot at around 6.30 pm to find several society residents gathering outside the sibling’s home on the ground floor.

The police said the women had locked themselves inside their flat and refused to come out despite multiple attempts. Meanwhile, some society members reportedly cut the accused’s electricity and water supply while others deflated two car tires to force them out. As per the police, eventually, the women came out to record videos of the crowd but then got into their car and tried to drive away.

“While attempting to escape, their car hit multiple vehicles parked inside the society and bystanders, including a police control room van and two police officers. Then the car broke out through the barrier of the society gate,” the police said.

As they were leaving, the duo allegedly struck a scooter and dragged it for approximately 1.5 km before their car came to a stop after colliding with a bus in Noida.

Apoorva Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi), said four FIRs were lodged against the siblings based on the complaint of different people, including a constable, under multiple charges like attempt to murder, assault on senior citizen, criminal intimidation, and property damage. DCP Gupta said both women were arrested with the court’s prior permission, and further investigation was ongoing.

Meanwhile, another FIR lodged against the sisters on September 5, based on the complaint of the society’s security guard, Akhilesh, also came out in the open. He accused them of taking him to their flat under the pretext of checking the water supply and then assaulting him and burning him with a hot iron before the neighbours reportedly rescued him.

An officer said, “Non-bailable warrant proceedings were underway against them.”

As per the residents, though the police came to investigate even last time, the sisters locked themselves inside for several days to evade the authorities.
