Amid the ongoing complaints over the scarcity of funds, the Public Works Department (PWD) has directed all its divisional officers looking after road repair, maintenance, buildings and flyovers to not start any new work from next month.
It has also asked all the officials concerned to submit an annual plan for their respective divisions.
According to a senior official, the engineers have been directed to not float any new tenders for new projects or repairs and maintenance of roads and stretches.
“It is hereby directed that no new work for repair and maintenance shall be undertaken till the submission of division wise annual action plan as well as a comprehensive maintenance plan pertaining to buildings, roads and flyover is submitted by all divisions” read an order issued by the PWD. However, ongoing works will continue, said officials.
“All the ongoing repair works will continue, but no new work will be undertaken. We aim to prepare an annual plan, with proposal for each division related to the repair and maintenance of the roads. The work will be taken up accordingly. All divisions have been asked to submit their annual plan and many of them have submitted,” the officials said.
Officials concerned have also been asked to submit report on “all ongoing maintenance works in terms of repeated fixed expenditure like — operation and other expended be compiled and submitted to the PWD secretariat by December 1.”
The AAP government’s top agenda for this year’s budget was the makeover of Delhi roads. “We have submitted our plan. It is bit unclear, because there are other projects for repairing and maintenance of roads. One of them which is a big project is being done separately by the streetscaping division. It will be clear once we get a new order or circular,” said an executive engineer, on the condition of anonymity.
