DMRC to operate three upcoming corridors of Chennai Metro
DMRC will also manage maintenance depots at Madhavaram, Poonamallee, and Semmancheri.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will now be operating three upcoming corridors of the Chennai Metro. The DMRC has been awarded the contract for operating and maintaining three corridors of Chennai Metro’s Phase-II expansion by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
The agreement, signed with CMRL, covers Corridor-3 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri SIPCOT-II – Indigo Line); Corridor-4 (Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass – Orange Line); and Corridor-5 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur – Red Line).
DMRC will also manage maintenance depots at Madhavaram, Poonamallee, and Semmancheri.
A formal meeting to initiate the project was held on Wednesday at the CMRL headquarters in Chennai. DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar, Director (Operations & Services) Amit Kumar Jain, and senior officials from both Metro agencies were present.
Under the agreement, DMRC will oversee day-to-day operations across a 116.1-km network with 112 stations, including six double-decker stations. The responsibilities include managing the Operation Control Centre (OCC), depot control centres, station operations, train services, and infrastructure maintenance.
The first section of Phase-II is expected to become operational by December 2025, with the entire corridor being opened in phases until December 2028. The contract will be in force for 12 years from the commercial operation date of the last stage of Phase-II.
DMRC has also been handling similar operations in Mumbai, where it has been responsible for running and maintaining Metro Line 3 since May 2023 under a 10-year contract. The first section of the Mumbai line, a 12.4-km stretch from Aarey to Bandra Kurla Complex with 10 stations, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October last year. — pic:
