Delhi wakes up to wet morning on 1st day of G20 Summit, more on cards for evening

Cloudy skies, and very light to light rain along with thundershowers in the evening are on the IMD forecast for Delhi on Saturday.

After a spell of light rainfall in some parts of Delhi in the early hours of Saturday — the 1st day of the two-day G20 Summit, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast points to the possibility of another spell on Saturday evening.

Cloudy skies, and very light to light rain along with thundershowers in the evening are on the IMD forecast for Delhi on Saturday.

The maximum temperature could be around 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature recorded early on Saturday was 23.2 degrees Celsius.

Very light rain or a drizzle is likely on Sunday as well.

While the Safdarjung weather station, the city’s base observatory, recorded 9.7 mm of rainfall early on Saturday, Palam recorded 12.2 mm, and Lodhi Road recorded 9 mm.

Humidity levels are set to remain at around 85% to 95% over the weekend.

Rain early on Saturday broke the dry spell that the city had seen so far this month which had been keeping the maximum temperature above normal. Against a normal of 62.7 mm of rainfall till September 9, the city has only 9.7 mm, which is a deficit of 85% for the month so far.

Rainfall is expected over other parts of northwest India as well over the weekend. Light to moderate scattered rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall spells are likely over Uttarakhand on September 9 and Uttar Pradesh on September 9 and 10.

The monsoon trough, an elongated low-pressure area, lies to the south of its normal position, while a cyclonic circulation lies over central Madhya Pradesh.
