A day after two communities clashed in North Delhi’s Majnu ka Tila area, uneasy calm prevailed in the vicinity.

The fight erupted Wednesday night after a man from the Valmiki community allegedly assaulted an autorickshaw driver belonging to Sahsi community for overspeeding, said police sources.

He added a PCR call was made and by the time police reached, people of both communities, who live on the either side of the road, had already started throwing stones at each other.

The police brought the situation under control around midnight and deployed nearly 30 personnel in the area. The police detained four people under preventive action, said the DCP.

Empty glasses were also hurled during the clash. Shattered bricks and glass pieces could be spotted Thursday morning on the either side of the road. Corporation employees were seen cleaning the area.

A car was also vandalised. “This is the second time my car has been targeted. When there was a clash in July, they had broken my car,” said its owner, Rohit.
