Delhi sees first conviction under new criminal laws in burglary case

Following investigation, police said they gathered evidence against him and charges were subsequently framed by the District Court in Rohini.

The Delhi Police recorded its first conviction under the new criminal laws with a three-month sentence for a 20-year-old man found guilty of burglary, police said Saturday. The case, registered on July 9 at Budh Vihar police station, involved the theft of jewellery and household items from a residential property in the area.

Police said the accused, Neeraj, a resident of Shakarpur, was arrested the same day the burglary was reported. Following investigation, police said they gathered evidence against him and charges were subsequently framed by the District Court in Rohini.

During the trial, Neeraj pled guilty to the charges. The court confirmed the offences under sections 305 (theft), 332 (house trespassing), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). On September 10, the court issued a three-month sentence to Neeraj.
