Covid cases continued to increase in the city, with 72 reported on Sunday. The positivity rate increased to 3.95%. On Saturday, 58 cases were recorded at a positivity rate of 3.52%.
At present, there are 209 active Covid cases in the city and the rate of hospitalisation is low. Of the 7,984 beds set aside for Covid patients, 14 are occupied. One patient is on the ventilator, two on oxygen support and four in the ICU.
According to doctors, the uptick in cases is because testing has increased owing to an increase in the number of people reporting symptoms of influenza.
In a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority Saturday, reinforcing practices such as masking, physical distancing, hand hygiene and sanitation were discussed. Preparedness at hospitals was also discussed.
The Delhi government has also issued instructions to the district surveillance units, health facilities and all government hospitals to closely monitor cases of H3N2 virus and Covid.
“At present, not many cases of influenza have been reported in government hospitals of Delhi, so we do not need to panic and worry. We just have to be careful and responsible. Patients with flu-like symptoms, aged above 65 and patients with severe respiratory complaints are advised to be more careful and will be monitored in the OPD and IPD of hospitals in all districts of Delhi to ensure early screening,” newly appointed Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj earlier said.
The Centre had issued a Covid advisory in six states — Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka — after a small increase in Covid cases.
