Sources said after Rajan’s arrest in Bali, senior officials asked the New Delhi Range of Special Cell to scrutinise all the old cases in which Rajan’s associates were arrested in Delhi.

“After scanning old files, it came to light that Delhi Police ‘encounter specialists’ ACP Rajbir Singh and Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma had arrested five sharpshooters of Rajan. Among them was Farid Tanasha, a top shooter and close aide of Rajan. They were held on September 21, 1999, from a rented accommodation in Subhash Nagar area of West Delhi,” said a police source.

Later, five separate FIRs were registered on the complaint of Inspector Sharma at Rajouri Garden police station.

Tanasha was held along with Jawan Prem Singh Thakur, Rajesh Namdev Kamble, Nain Singh Bisht and Karan Bhadur, said sources. “One more associate of Rajan, Bharat Nepali left the flat just few minutes before the raid. Police had recovered a number of fake passports from their possession. The case is currently being handled by the officials of Special Cell and the trial is pending in Tis Hazari court,” said police sources.

Investigators are looking into Rajan’s alleged involvement in several abductions committed by underworld don Irfan Goga and Fazlu Rehman in Delhi from 2000 to 2003, added the sources.
