Delhi: PM Modi set to launch big-ticket projects today in presence of CM Atishi, AAP, BJP Jostle for Credit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 12,200 crore.

Even as the political climate in the Capital gets hotter, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi government and the BJP-led Centre will share the stage at the inauguration of two major metro projects and the first segment of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 12,200 crore. These include the 13-km stretch of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, worth around Rs 4,600 crore, connecting it to the larger RRTS network between Delhi and Meerut.
He will also inaugurate the 2.8-km stretch between Janakpuri and Krishna Park of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV worth around Rs 1,200 crore — the first stretch of the DMRC’s Phase-IV to be inaugurated, which will benefit commuters from West Delhi areas such as Krishna Park, parts of Vikaspuri, Janakpuri among others.
The PM is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the 26.5-km Rithala-Kundli section of Delhi Metro Phase-IV, worth around Rs 6,230 crore, connecting Rithala in Delhi to Nathupur (Kundli) in Haryana and aimed at enhancing connectivity between the two.
Chief Minister Atishi, who will represent the Delhi government – a 50 % stakeholder with the Centre in regards to the Delhi Metro – has said that this expansion “is a testament to the city’s dynamic growth under AAP’s governance.”
“The Delhi Government has already contributed ₹7,278 crore towards metro expansion and ₹1,260 crore for the RRTS project, underscoring its active role in transforming the region’s transport landscape,” she said on Saturday, adding that the Delhi Metro network, which spanned 193 kilometres in 2014-15, has now doubled to 393 kilometres under the AAP Government, with an additional 250 kilometres currently under construction.
“The past decade has seen unprecedented growth in Delhi’s metro network. In just 10 years, we’ve expanded the Metro by 200 kilometres, and another 250 kilometres are currently under development. This progress surpasses the expansion achieved in the preceding two decades,” she also said.
This growth, the CM added, has directly benefited Delhi’s residents, with daily metro ridership increasing from 24 lakh in 2014-15 to over 60 lakh today.
Expressing her satisfaction with the collaboration between the Central and Delhi governments in funding and implementing these projects, she said, “Tomorrow’s inauguration of the new metro lines and the RRTS segment marks a significant leap forward in Delhi’s infrastructure development. This partnership underscores our shared commitment to enhancing connectivity and driving economic growth in the region.”
Taking on the CM, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said it is commendable that she has recognised that real gifts come in the form of development projects and “not in hollow, populist declarations.”
“The RRTS project…saw the Delhi government pay its minor financial contribution only after being warned by the Courts…the metro inauguration, for which the Chief Minister is attempting to claim credit today, had its Janakpuri West to Krishna Park project approval delayed for two years under the Arvind Kejriwal government,” he alleged.
