Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has forwarded the resignation of former social welfare minister Raaj Kumar Anand to the President, following the recommendation from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, said officials.
Kejriwal, who was out on interim bail for 21 days following his arrest in connection with the excise policy case, accepted Anand’s resignation on May 31 and forwarded the file to the L-G House for further approval. The CM surrendered at Tihar Jail on Sunday.
Anand, the MLA from Patel Nagar, had resigned from the party’s prime membership and as minister on April 10, alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party was “mired in the quicksand of graft” and had no moral right to continue in government”. He also accused it of “ignoring the Dalit community”.
He held various portfolios like Social Welfare, SC/ST and cooperative societies.
Anand later joined the BSP and contested the Lok Sabha polls from the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.
In his recommendation to the L-G, the CM did not propose any names for the portfolios.
A senior official said, “If the portfolio is not allocated to anyone else and is vacant, then it automatically goes to the CM.
