Residents of Mandoli village, east Delhi filed a plea in the High Court alleging that a 100-year-old graveyard is being levelled by the MCD. Hearing the plea, the court on Thursday issued status quo orders on the case.

The plea filed through advocate Rajiv Nanda says MCD had come with JCBs to level the graveyard in September 2014. When residents filed a police complaint, graves were broken again in March this year. On May 5, police personnel came to the graveyard and started taking measurements. Residents of the area allege that the digging is being done under the influence of local MCD corporator Manoj Tyagi. The petition was heard today before court of Justice Rajiv Shakdher who has issued status quo orders.
“what is going on? Do they want to create anarchy in the country?” said Justice Rajiv.
The DDA had attempted to acquire the land in 2005, but proceedings were stopped after residents objected. The Delhi govt has certified that the graveyard has been in place since 1915.
