Ola has assured the court it will withdraw all diesel cars within two weeks.
The Delhi High Court on Thursday allowed cab service Ola to ply only CNG cabs within the national capital. Appearing for Ola, senior lawyer P Chidambaram agreed to rollback all Ola diesel taxis within a period of two weeks.
Following the court order, Ola, in a statement issued, said: “In order to assist driver-partners to conform with the local regulations, we have introduced a first of its kind technology that will help distinguish CNG and Diesel vehicles on the app, allowing us to be aware as well as keep track of such compliance and will enable users to choose only CNG vehicles for usage within Delhi.”
App users who are travelling in the NCR region now have to choose which category applies to their commute – Within Delhi or Delhi to NCR.
In August, Ola had said it would offer benefits worth up to Rs 1 lakh to enable its driver partners to switch to CNG vehicles. The move help the Bengaluru-based firm comply with the court ruling that says commercial vehicles can not ply in Delhi unless converted to the single fuel mode of CNG.
The SoftBank-backed company has about 25,000 cabs in Delhi which are registered on its platform.
