On Thursday, a shallow fog was reported.

The Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP IV) restrictions, which kicked in a day earlier, were revoked late on Thursday as the 24-hour average air quality index (AIR) in the national Capital climbed from 386 to 302 in the ‘very poor’ category owing to rain and improved wind speed.

However, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), in its order, stated that GRAP III will remain in effect in the entire National Capital Region as a precautionary measure. Hence, restrictions such as hybrid classes for students up to Class V, and ban on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel light motor vehicles as well as all demolition and mining activities in NCR will continue.

The weather respite may be short-lived as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Friday (January 17) anticipating dense to very dense fog conditions. The Met office has issued a yellow alert for the weekend with moderate to dense fog conditions. It has also forecast rainfall on January 21 and 22.
