The wait to avail the Delhi government’s subsidy for electric vehicle (EV) owners is finally nearing an end as the Transport Department plans to start a verification process of the number of applications and clear the backlogs, said a senior transport official.

Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said, “About Rs 140 crore pending outstanding amount… will be disbursed following proper verification process. The Transport Department will soon start the process and will also launch a portal. Non-release of the subsidy amount in the past year has resulted in ‘huge pendency’ and ‘backlog’, the official said.

“Last year, after the former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in the excise policy case, the EV policy could not be extended as the cabinet meeting could not be convened. Following which, people who had applied for availing the subsidies on the purchase of EVs did not get it… Now, the department is planning to verify all those applications and approve subsidies and other perks to eligible applicants,” said the official.
