(PTI Photo)The Delhi government is setting up around 185 Kanwar camps across the city to facilitate kanwariyas, devotees of Shiva, taking the Delhi route to reach the destination of their annual pilgrimage. All these camps will be equipped with waterproof tents, medical facilities, clean water, toilets, and furniture.
Announcing the government’s arrangements, Minister Atishi said, “We are committed to providing the best facilities for the Shiva Bhakts during the holy month of Sawan…As this is a religious endeavour, I urge the public also to come forward and support the Kanwariyas in every way possible.”
She said that the Kanwariyas will arrive in Delhi from July 25 onwards and that all the Kanwar camps will be fully ready in the next 2-3 days. The majority of camps will be set up in the districts of East Delhi, North East Delhi and Shahdara, as these are the entry and exit points for the Kanwariyas in Delhi.
“The Kejriwal government is setting up 185 Kanwar camps this year in Delhi. The largest number of camps, 38, are being set up in Shahdara district. In North East, Central and East Delhi respectively, 29, 22 and 19 camps are being set up. Apart from this, Kanwar camps are also being set up in several other places in Delhi. Approximately 15-20 lakh Kanwariyas pass by Delhi,” said the minister.
Atishi, who holds the Revenue portfolio among others, said the Revenue department has been preparing for the Kanwar camps since June, and that she has continuously inspected it as Minister-in-Charge along with senior officials of the department.
