When contacted, SP Ajay Kumar Pandey told The Sunday Express that he did so without “ego” since the man looked tired. The Shamli Police tweet was accompanied with the text: “Suraksha ke saath saath seva bhi (Not just protecting people but serving them too).”
“The incident took place around 2.15 am. The driver of the truck in which Mohit was stopped in the middle of the road to cover the truck from the rain, and a speeding truck rammed into his vehicle. The errant driver was arrested and an FIR has been filed,” said a police officer.

The vehicle was fished out using a large crane and the three bloated bodies were recovered from inside the metal structure. The deceased were identified as Honey Saitia (34), Harnek Singh (28) and Vivek Verma (33). While Saitia and Singh were residents of Delhi, Vivek had been living in Loni.

This year, the yatra began on July 17. Over 200 camps have been built in Delhi in the past few weeks for kanwarias who will cross the city on their way back home, carrying pots of water from the Ganga in Haridwar.
