Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva flagged off a convoy of 52 trucks carrying relief material for flood-affected areas of Punjab on Sunday. The convoy, dispatched from the Delhi BJP office, will travel to Jalandhar before distributing aid to severely deluge-hit regions of Punjab.

Speaking at the event, Sachdeva said, “All of Delhi stands with the flood-affected people of Punjab, and every Delhiite is committed to helping them in every possible way. This convoy of 52 trucks is just the beginning, and this service will continue further.” He added that the relief material includes mosquito nets, tarpaulins, blankets, medicines, utensils, footwear and other essentials.

“Punjab needs us today. This is not a favour but an act of humanity,” he said, adding that the Delhi government has contributed Rs. 5 crore to the Punjab CM’s Relief Fund.

Gupta said, “We have learned from Prime Minister Narendra Modi that when disaster strikes, we must stand with those in need. Punjab is the jewel state of India, and rising above politics to help Punjab is our duty. If the heart of the nation beats in Delhi, then Delhi’s heartbeat resides in Punjab.”

She added that she had personally spoken with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, assuring him of Delhi’s support. Senior BJP MLAs including Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Alka Gurjar, Pawan Rana, Pravesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood and Kapil Mishra were present on stage as the trucks rolled out.

This comes two days after Arvind Kejriwal, the former Delhi Chief Minister, who has been rarely seen in public since his party’s loss in the Assembly polls earlier this year, visited the relief tents in Delhi and highlighted the flood victims’ concerns of lack of adequate facilities at these camps.
