Delhi News Highlights: Sultanpur Majra MLA to be one of two new Cabinet Ministers

Delhi Police has arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly killing a person in Haryana's Sonipat in a gang war, officials said on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Joginder Singh, they said. "Singh is a history-sheeter and has a long history of rivalry in many parts of the national capital. Brijesh was killed on September 16 in Kharkhoda in Haryana. We got information about the accused and he was arrested from Narela area," a senior police officer said.

Police recovered one pistol and six bullets from his possession and started further investigation into the matter. PTI

Important cases heard in Delhi HC today: 

? HC sought the stand of Puja Khedkar on the UPSC's allegation that the former IAS probationer committed perjury by making a false statement in relation to her anticipatory bail plea.

? Absence of dedicated parking spaces in residential colonies is a civic issue which requires a policy-based response from municipal authorities rather than judicial intervention in individual disputes, the HC has said.

? HC asked the Enforcement Directorate to respond to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan's plea challenging his arrest in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the waqf board here during his chairmanship. (PTI)

Delhi's next chief minister, Atishi is set to enter history books as being only the third woman to chair the CM seat after BJP's Sushma Swaraj and Congress' Sheila Dikshit. 

Atishi's appointment to the top post comes at a crucial junction for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is looking to return to power in the Delhi Assembly polls early next year. 

The senior leader will have to ensure fast track of policies after assuming office to ensure implementaion of schemes like Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0 and doorstep delivery of services among others.

However, it is known that Aitish is not new to such situations. Her induction in the cabinet happened when the government was going through difficult times following the arrest of deputy chief minister and the then Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's trusted lieutenant, Manish Sisodia last year in excise policy case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Atishi, along with Saurabh Bharadwaj, joined the Delhi government following the resignation of Sisodia and Satyendar Jain.

Mukesh Ahalawat is a new face in Atishi-led Delhi cabinet New Delhi. Here's what we know about him:

? He is a first-time MLA from the Sultanpur Majra constituency
?The 48-year-old Dalit leader has been selected to represent the reserved constituency.
? He has been inducted to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand. Anand resigned from the Kejriwal government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in April, subsequently joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
? Ahalawat is currently the co-incharge of the party's Rajasthan unit.
? In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, he led AAP to victory in the Sultanpur Majra constituency by defeating BJP's Ram Chander Chawriya with a margin of 48,042 votes.
? By profession, Ahalawat identifies himself as a businessman.
? Born on November 9, 1975, Ahalawat completed his education up to class 12 from Ravindra Public School, CBSE, in 1994.
? Before joining AAP, he contested the 2013 elections from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) but lost to Congress' Jai Kishan. Sultanpur Majra, a suburban assembly seat, falls under the North West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.

Atishi and her new cabinet are set to take the oath of office on September 21. However, their tenure will be brief, as Delhi Assembly elections are due in February next year.

Sultanpur Majra MLA Mukesh Ahlawat will be one of the two new Cabinet Ministers, who will be sworn-in on Saturday, AAP sources said. It remains to be know who will be selected for the other Cabinet post.

The Aam Aadmi Party will announce the names of two new Cabinet Ministers on Thursday and sources said the names of Karol Bagh MLA Vishesh Ravi, Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar are being discussed for the posts. The two Cabinet berths were left vacant with the resignations of Arvind Kejriwal and former Patel Nagar MLA Raaj Kumar switching to BSP and later to BJP. Atishi will be sworn in as Chief Minister on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast light rain accompanied by thunderstorm in Delhi today. While the sky is likely to be generally cloudy, minimum and temperatures are likely to hover between 23 and 33 degree Celsius.

“There are puppets in their (BJP) party as well. It’s AAP’s decision and we should accept it. They have the mandate,” says RJD MP Manoj Jha (@manojkjhadu) on BJP calling Atishi a 'puppet CM'.

A day before the end of the tenure of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) handed over the charge to newly-nominated members on Tuesday. However, key positions, including the post of all four non-official members, remain vacant.

NDMC, a 13-member Council, consists of elected officials and non-official members, and MHA nominates these members for a term of five years. One MP and two MLAs from the city are part of the Council as their constituencies fall under the NDMC’s jurisdiction.

The elected members include Bansuri Swaraj, Member of Parliament from New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, former chief minister and MLA from New Delhi, and Virendra Singh Kadian who is the Delhi Cantonment MLA as one-third of the Delhi Cantonment’s area falls under the council. Read more

Congress workers are currently holding protest in Delhi against BJP leader and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu over his remark against Rahul Gandhi. 

The grand old party on Wednesday submitted a complaint against “open threats” by the leaders of the BJP and its allies “to eliminate/ cause bodily injury to” the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. The complaint was submitted by Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken at New Delhi’s Tughlak Road Police Station and a copy was also sent to the Chief Election Commissioner of India.

The complaint also named Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Bittu, who it said “called the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi as the ‘number one terrorist of the country’” on September 15. Lastly, it named Uttar Pradesh Minister Raghuraj Singh for saying that “Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is the ‘number one terrorist of India’”.

Following resignation from CM post, Arvind Kejriwal will not have Z-plus security and he is set to vacate from his bungalow in 15 days. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in a press conference said, "There are concerns over his security, there have been several attacks on him. We tried to make him understand that there is security issue, BJP people have attacked him and that this house is necessary from security point of view. However, he decided that God will protect him."

“Now as the Delhi CM has resigned, Arvind Kejriwal ji will give up all his facilities allotted by the government to him – from the house to Z plus security and car,” AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said. AAP said that it is not yet decided where the CM will stay but he will vacate in 15 days.

Following building collapse incident in Karol Bagh, CM-designate Atishi ordered the district magistrate to provide assistance to the victims and residents. In a post on X, Atishi wrote, "This incident of house collapse in Karol Bagh area is very sad. I have ordered the District Magistrate to provide all possible help to the people living there and the victims, if anyone is injured, get him treated and find out the reasons for this accident. I have also spoken to the Municipal Corporation Mayor regarding the accident.

There has been a lot of rain this year, my appeal to all the people of Delhi is that if there is any possibility of any accident related to construction, then immediately inform the administration and the corporation, the government will immediately help you."

Responding to Atishi staking claim to form government,  AAP Rajya Sabha MP Dr Sandeep Pathak told PTI, "All MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are capable of becoming the CM. Atishi had been handling several ministries already. She has the experience of running several ministries, so it was obvious. Arvind Kejriwal proposed her name, and in our party, the word of our leader is final, and everyone is emotionally connected. Arvind Kejriwal resigned; it was sad day for us. We agreed with his decision with a heavy heart, but someone had to be made interim... hence Atishi was made the CM."

A building collapsed in Karol Bagh and five fire tenders have been rushed to the spot. Some persons are suspected to be trapped under the debris. DFS Chief Atul Garg said more manual power is being requested.

Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP convener, who walked out of jail on September 6, will don a single hat — at least on paper, in nearly a decade. Kejriwal will now take on a series of campaigning assignments in Delhi. He will also accompany Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as well as senior party leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh during the party’s ongoing campaign for the October 5 Haryana Assembly polls, party sources said.

Following his resignation from Chief Minister’s post, Arvind Kejriwal will give up all government facilities, AAP sources said on Wednesday.
