LPG cylinders for Rs 500, a detailed report on resolving the issue of dirty water, Rs 2,500 financial assistance for women from poor families, and repair of roads were some of the key agendas discussed by the BJP government on Friday.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held multiple meetings with ministers and department heads, and with senior officials of the Public Works Department, the Women and Child Department and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). She told mediapersons that she also held a meeting on the condition of roads and potholes.
The CM and her Cabinet ministers are set to hit the roads on Saturday to take stock of the ground situation and inspect roads, hospitals and water quality. Sources said the CM directed DJB officials to submit a report on the areas that are receiving dirty drinking water, along with reasons for the same and quick solutions. “The CM strictly directed the department that the issue of dirty drinking water should be resolved soon and there should be no scarcity. She said that instead of waiting for the summer action plan, officials should submit a report along with solutions by Tuesday…,” said a senior official present at the meeting.
The ministers also individually held meetings with their departments and officials and gave instructions for the implementation of key promises made by the BJP in the run-up to the polls.
According to senior officials, Food and Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa held a meeting with senior officials on subsidised LPG cylinders and asked for a proposal to roll out the scheme. When asked, Sirsa confirmed the same. The BJP had promised cooking gas at the cost of Rs 500 to women from poor families and free cylinders on the occasion of Holi and Diwali in its poll manifesto.
“The department was asked to prepare a proposal with financial implications, eligibility criteria and how much time it will take to roll out, terms and conditions etc… The department will soon draft a plan and a budget proposal and the same will be placed before the minister for further discussion,” said an official.
