A 27-year-old businessman was allegedly beaten to death by his friends after he hit one of them with a beer bottle at a party held on Friday in Delhi’s Rohini, police said on Sunday. Three out of five accused in the case have been arrested so far, police said.

An officer said that the victim, identified as Habib Rehman, was a resident of Delhi’s Sant Nagar and ran a business of medical and surgical equipment. “On Friday night, he went out with five of his friends. They travelled from Pitampura to Rohini. He had told his family that he was out partying, and did not return home that night,” the officer said.

The six men then went to a mall in Rohini. Rehman allegedly smashed a beer bottle on the head of one of the accused after he had a minor argument with him, police said.

“The five of them then roughed up Rehman and put him in the trunk of the car they were travelling in. He was taken to a dairy farm owned by the man who was hit by the bottle. Rehman was then beaten with sticks and lathis,” the officer also said.

Police said that around 4.30 am on Saturday, Rehman’s brother Sabir received a call from one of the accused and was told that Rehman is near Rani Public School in Burari and was in a critical state. “Rehman’s family had not checked on him on Friday night after he stepped out as he often used to go to parties with his friends and returned the next morning,” the officer said.

Sabir told police that he rushed to Rani Public School and found his brother in an unconscious state. “Sabir insisted three of the accused to help him take Rehman to a hospital, but they allegedly forced him to take Rehman home,” the official added.

Later when Rehman’s condition started deteriorating, he was rushed to Burari Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 1.30 pm on Saturday.
