On the last day of campaigning for Wednesday’s Assembly elections, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to the streets of Delhi, holding a door-to-door campaign in Jangpura and a roadshow at Kotla Mubarakpur in Kasturba Nagar.

In a high-energy roadshow, she reached Kotla Mubarakpur, which falls in the Kasturba Nagar constituency, where Congress’ candidate Abhishek Dutt is being regarded as a strong contender.

Sitting atop a vehicle with Dutt by her side, Vadra navigated the narrow lanes of the bustling Kotla Mubarakpur market waving at the crowd that had begun gathering as early as 1 pm.

While most of Delhi is witnessing a dual contest between AAP and BJP, Kasturba Nagar stands out as a rare exception. Here, the battle is shaping into a triangular contest, with Dutt enjoying significant popularity across multiple pockets of the constituency.

His strong grassroots presence and active engagement with local issues has given Congress a fighting chance in an otherwise tough electoral landscape, said party insiders.

Moreover, unlike other parts of Delhi, where AAP and BJP banners dominate the visual landscape, in Kasturba Nagar, Congress posters visibly outnumber those of its rivals.

In 2020, Dutt had stood third in the constituency with a total of 21% votes polled in his favour. Of the 70 Congress candidates in the fray, only three had managed to bag more than 5% votes.
