Ten people, including “an Uber cab driver and an AIIMS lab technician”, have been arrested for allegedly looting people by offering them a lift, police said.
According to police, the accused are divided into three gangs and have allegedly carried out more than 100 such incidents, mostly in Greater Noida.
“Their modus operandi involved offering a lift to people. Before dropping their victims at their designated location, one of the accused would pretend to be ill. They would then stop the car at a remote location, assault the passenger, and steal their valuables,” said Ranvijay Singh, SP, Rural, Gautam Budh Nagar.
An Uber spokesperson said: “No records of the driver and the cab mentioned have been found so far. An internal probe is being conducted. We will provide full cooperation to the police.”
