With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looking set to form a government in Haryana for the third time, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva Tuesday said this was an indicator of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal’s “exit” from the Capital’s governance.
Results till late Tuesday evening indicated that the BJP was set to bag 48 seats of the 90 Assembly seats in the state and the Congress 37 while the AAP failed to open its account.
“The people of Haryana have blessed the BJP… our victory in Haryana is the victory of vikas (development), corruption-free administration and that of the leadership of the honourable Prime Minister… without a doubt, many similar achievements will be accomplished in the country over the coming days,” Sachdeva said.
“… Arvind Kejriwal becomes ‘Dilli ka Beta’ in Delhi and ‘Haryana ka Lal’ in Haryana, the people of both Delhi and Haryana have seen his two-facedness. They have made their verdict clear and now, in Delhi too, the countdown of his exit has begun,” he added.
Delhi goes to polls early next year. The AAP had swept the previous two elections in 2020 and 2015 and the BJP, which has been out of power for 26 years in the city, is hoping to make a comeback by trouncing the AAP. The AAP also figured, without being named, in BJP national president J P Nadda’s victory address as the “kattar bhrashtachari party” — in power in the city.
According to a senior leader, Haryana’s porous borders with Delhi were a crucial electoral factor related to its fortunes in the Delhi Assembly elections and the party was more than confident of the “positive impact” of a victory on such seats in Assembly constituencies in rural Delhi.
Crediting its win in Haryana to its management of the non-Jat votes in the state, sources said the results would help give more impetus to its push among the SC, ST and OBC communities in the capital.

“Delhi is bordered on multiple sides by seats such as Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat and Rohtak; the BJP will likely win all these seats which will have a ripple effect on both public sentiment as well as the morale of BJP cadre in seats such as Mehrauli, Najafgarh, Badarpur and Matiala, among others,” the leader said.
“The floating nature of the population — which resides in the Capital but is employed in Haryana — will likely ensure that consolidation of non-Jat votes in Assembly constituencies bordering Delhi is carried forward into the Assembly polls. We are confident that Jats residing in rural Delhi are in favour of the BJP,” the leader added.
