With the prevailing cold wave and severe fog conditions, flight and train operations were hit early Monday morning in the national capital. A total of five flights were diverted at the Delhi airport. Four flights were diverted to Jaipur and one flight to Ahmedabad between 1 am and 5 am. The Delhi airport issued an advisory for its passengers, asking them to contact their respective airlines before travelling. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), it announced, "Due to dense fog, flight operations at Delhi airport may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused in deeply regretted." It further said that while landing and takeoffs continue at IGI airport, "flights that are not CAT III complaint may get affected." Moreover, according to Flightradar24, an online portal that tracks flights around the world using satellite technology, Delhi airport saw 180 flights delayed and 57 cancelled in departures. In arrivals, 99 flights were delayed and 49 were cancelled at the Delhi airport. Fog, low temperature in North India According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to continue over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, in isolated pockets of Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Monday. Visibility plunged to 25 metres in Punjab's Amritsar and Patiala, Bihar's Purnea, West Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, and West Bengal's Kolkata. Jammu, Hisar, Ambala, Chandigarh, and Palam recorded a visibility of 50 metres. Ground frost conditions are very likely at isolated pockets over northwest India too. A day earlier, Delhi recorded the minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius — four degrees below normal for this time of the year and the lowest of the season so far. In view of the low temperatures, schools for students up to Class 8 in Noida will remain shut till Tuesday.
