Fatal accidents in Delhi in the first six months of the year have come down by 13 per cent. The fall is huge if compared with previous years and the drastic increase in the number of vehicles registered in Delhi. Traffic officials attribute the sharp decrease in fatalities to an increased presence of officials manning traffic and the changing emphasis from prosecution to regulation. P2

Metro promises more facilities for pedestrians
After an inspection on Thursday,Delhi Metro rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director E Sreedharan assured that at least three Metro stations along the Jehangirpuri-Central Secretariat line will soon get more pedestrian facilities. Senior DMRC officials said they were enhancing facilities for pedestrians and re-organising pedestrian movement At Rajiv Chowk,Chawri Bazar and Chandni Chowk Metro stations to ensure smooth flow of passengers. Rajiv Chowk and Chandni Chowk are two most crowded stations on this corridor. Four additional escalators are being installed at the former to connect the underground section with the main station atrium.

Two out of three Delhi women harassed: Survey
Two out of three women in Delhi have suffered sexual harassment at least two to five times in the past year,says a survey report released by NGO Jagori,United Nations Development Fund for Women and UN Habitat. The survey ‘Safe Cities Baseline Survey-Delhi 2010’ gathered and analysed information about the nature and forms of gender based violence and harassment faced by women,the role of governing agencies and the police in safeguarding women’s rights and societal perceptions and attitudes towards sexual harassment.
