VAT hike: Petrol pumps threaten strike again
Petrol pump owners in the capital are on the warpath again and have threatened to go on a strike over the increase in VAT on diesel. Last time,their strike was withdrawn at last moment following assurances from the government. The dealers claim they will be out of business soon if the hike in Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel was not rolled back as customers were shifting to neighbouring Haryana where the fuel was Rs 4 cheaper per litre. p3
Days before marriage,man run over by bus
A 24-year-old man died after his bike was hit by a Haryana Roadways bus near Andrews Ganj on Monday. The victim,Kapil Kumar,was to marry on May 15 and was on his way to invite friends for the function. Kumar,an assistant manager with a IT company in Gurgaon,was rushed to the Moolchand Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Bus driver Madan Lal has been arrested and the bus impounded.
Tyre burst,robbers flee on victims bike
A gas agency employee was allegedly robbed of Rs 4.43 lakh which he was going to deposit in a bank as well the bike he was riding in Dwarka on Monday. Police said Raj Pal was near Sector 9 in Dwarka when a bike hit his two-wheeler. Soon,one of the men riding the other bike came towards Pal with a country-made pistol and asked him to hand over the money. But as the looters prepared to leave,they noticed that the accident had punctured a tyre on their bike, said a police officer. But this did not deter the duo,who immediately escaped on Pals motorcycle with the money. A case of robbery has been registered.
City to get 60 all-weather stations soon, says Met
The Met Department on Monday said 60 All-Weather Stations would be added to Delhi and surrounding areas before the Commonwealth Games to revamp the study of weather and pollution. Further,the Central Pollution Control Board is to install automatic air monitoring systems at Delhi Secretariat and at the airport.
