Changing traditions

This time two relatively lesser-known labels — Rimple & Harpreet Narula and Solakshana Couture — have made it to the list.

Last week when the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) announced the schedule of India Couture Week 2014, fashion watchers were a bit taken aback by the line-up on the final day of the coveted event. While usually Couture Week is all about the fashion fraternity’s A-listers, this time two relatively lesser-known labels — Rimple & Harpreet Narula and Solakshana Couture — have made it to the list.

“This is the sponsor’s show after all. Personally, I feel that these labels have upped their game and have come up with good collections. Also, this is an opportunity for many people to realise their dream of showcasing at a credible fashion show,” says Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI. “We have provided stylists to these designers to oversee their shows,” says Sethi. The last day of the event also sees a huge change in tradition as the closing show will not be one big name but a sponsor-led jewellery show with a mix of couturiers showcasing their clothes. “It will essentially be a jewellery show,” says Sethi.
