CBI conspiring to keep Kejriwal in jail, claims AAP; BJP pushes back with ‘melodrama jibe’
On Friday, the central agency accused the Delhi CM of trying to “politically sensationalise” the excise policy case.

A day after CBI obtained Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena’s sanction to prosecute Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday accused the central agency and the BJP of conspiring to keep the CM in jail. The Delhi unit of the BJP, however, claimed that the ruling party was indulging in “melodrama”, and was being “anarchic” in expecting “investigative agencies to work according to their whims”.
“See how the CBI is dancing like a puppet on the BJP’s agenda — the day CBI tells the court that its reply on CM’s bail plea is not ready, and seeks more time … the same day CBI’s response is sent to media for the sake of one-sided headlines,” AAP leader and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“No matter how many conspiracies are hatched for headline management, truth will win. Agencies may be dancing to political tunes… but constitution and justice will always side with the truth,” said Sisodia, who recently got bail in the excise policy case after 17 months.
No immediate response was available from the CBI on the AAP’s claims. On Friday, the central agency accused the Delhi CM of trying to “politically sensationalise” the excise policy case. The CBI told the Supreme Court that all critical decisions in the formulation of the policy were taken at his behest, adding there is substantial evidence pointing to his involvement
Delhi minister Atishi at a presser stepped up the attack on CBI on Saturday. “On July 11, Kejriwal got bail from the Supreme Court in the case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). More than a month has passed, and he is still not able to come out of jail due to the conspiracy of the BJP,” she claimed.
She alleged similar delays during Sisodia’s bail hearings. “When Manish Sisodia’s case was filed in the Supreme Court and his hearing was on July 15, even then BJP’s ED and CBI told the Supreme Court that they needed time,” she said.
“The affidavit, for which the CBI sought a week from the court (on Friday), is today printed in every newspaper of Delhi and the country. The question arises… how did this happen?” Atishi claimed.
“This is not a new thing. For the last two years, a conspiracy has been hatched against all the leaders of AAP. Raids were conducted in the houses of AAP leaders… they were called for questioning again and again, and witnesses were threatened to testify against AAP leaders. Despite all the raids, when not even a single rupee of corruption was found…when the AAP did not slow down, Kejriwal was also arrested in a false case just before the Lok Sabha elections,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP shot back and accused the AAP of being “anarchic” for expecting investigative agencies to work according to their whims. “For AAP leaders, any investigation agency opposing their bail application or contention, or a court not allowing their sought relief, is biased towards them at BJP’s behest… If Atishi and Manish Sisodia believe that the CBI has done anything wrong or has lied, then instead of doing media melodrama, they should challenge CBI in the Supreme Court,” BJP spokespersons Praveen Shankar Kapoor and Amit Tiwari said in a statement.
