Further investigation is underway to ascertain if negligence or visibility issues contributed to the accident. (Express Photo)A 22-year-old man was killed in a road accident early Saturday morning after his car rammed into a stationary truck on the Salimgarh flyover in Central Delhi, the police said.
The deceased was identified as Rudra Pratap, a resident of Sector 19 in Noida. The police said the accident occurred around 1 am, following which a control room call was received at the IP Estate police station.
By the time a police team reached the spot, the injured driver had already been taken to Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash Hospital, where doctors later declared him dead during treatment.
According to investigators, the truck had developed a puncture and was parked on the flyover when Rudra’s car crashed into it from behind. The impact was severe enough to completely damage the front portion of the vehicle, they said.
According to the police, preliminary inquiry suggests that the car was travelling at high speed and failed to notice the stationary truck in time. Further investigation is underway to ascertain if negligence or visibility issues contributed to the accident.
The police registered a case under sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 106(1) [causing death by a rash or negligent act] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 122 (leave a vehicle in a dangerous position on a public place) of the Motor Vehicles Act . They seized the truck and began an investigation to verify whether proper warning indicators were in place behind the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Officers said postmortem proceedings are being conducted and statements of witnesses, including the truck driver, are being recorded.
