The L-G, who had promised to make Delhi the “city of flowers” just after taking the oath, has been beautifying, restoring, and aesthetically upgrading areas in Delhi as well as New Delhi. The NDMC usually imports the spring-blooming flower during winter every year and plants them in different places. The council had imported over 1 lakh tulip bulbs in 2022 and 65,000 in 2021. Five lakh tulip bulbs were procured this year, and the DDA took 1 lakh of these for planting in different parks. Around 9,000 tulip bulbs have been planted in Asita East, Mehrauli Archaeological Park and Rohini’s Swarn Jayanti Park, Baansera (40,000), Sanjay Lake and Vasudev Ghat (5,000), and Vasant Udhyan and DDA park opposite LSR College (6,000) among other areas.

Also, for cost cutting and encouraging local farms, Saxena has given directions to procure flower bulbs from the local growers of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, rather than from abroad. The NDMC on November 15, 2023, had established a Tulip Growth Cum Storage Chamber at Lodhi Garden, comprising a cold storage, which can house 50,000 fresh bulbs — controlled in temperatures between two and 20 degrees Celsius.
