PNB,IOC win
Punjab National Bank registered their third successive win in the 46 th senior Nehru hockey tournament,defeating Bengal XI 2-1,on Wednesday. Bengal XI took the lead in the 6 th minute through Rizuddin but two goals in the first half sealed the game for PNB. Lakhwinder Singh scored in the 19 th minute while Jalvinder scored at the stroke of half time.
In another match,Indian Oil thrashed Indian Navy 6-1. They began scoring in the third minute and continued till the 60th . Didar Singh converted four penalty corners while Arjun Antil,and Kamlesh scored one apiece. For Indian Navy,AK Kiro scored the consolation goal. In other matches,Namdhari XI beat BSF 4-0 Malak Singh scored a brace while Dilbag Singh Jr and Gurmail Singh scored one each – and Air India beat SAI XI 1-0,courtesy a penalty corner by M.K. Mudappa.
Vartik Tihara was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round display of 31 not out and 2/17,while Sparsh Jain claimed four wickets for nine runs to help KG Colts beat Punjab National Bank by 7 wickets. They got four points for the victory in the opening match of the DDCA League 2009,at the Bharatnagar ground.
