Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar. (Twitter/@iasnkumar) The Delhi Legislative Assembly’s Committee on Petitions has accused Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar of giving “bureaucratic patronage” to IAS officer Ashish More, who, it has alleged, is involved in a “land scam”, and has summoned Kumar.
Sources from the committee aware of developments in this regard said Divisional Commi-ssioner Ashwani Kumar and More, former Services Secretary, had also been summoned along with the chief secretary on June 15. “Complaint of grave misconduct and irregularities by Sh. Ashish More, IAS, during his posting as DM/North in 2013 in respect of land in Village Jhangola in North District”, agenda for the scheduled sitting of the committee read.
According to sources, Kumar was allegedly patronising More and helping him evade his deposition before the committee which had first been scheduled for June 12.
More is accused of transferring “valuable land parcels to private entities” during his tenure as DM (North). More, as per sources, had allegedly “got Divisional Comm-issioner of the Revenue Depart-ment to claim” the case belonged to the subject matter of land and not revenue — and beyond the jurisdiction of the Delhi Legislative Assembly — “despite being fully aware of the matter concerning the Revenue Estate” of a village.
Meanwhile, Revenue department sources said it had, in response to similar summons on June 7, submitted that “the decision of the then District Magistrate (North District) was taken as a part of the Revenue Court proceedings” and that the matter was outside the purview of the Assembly and the committee.
