The shoppers at Select City Walk in Saket were in for a surprise last week as they came across a rickshaw carrying a host of brass pots inside the mall. Titled Cheap Rice,this installation by Subodh Gupta,which is “an attempt to place the everyday utilitarian objects into work of arts” is being exhibited by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. According to Gupta,“A rickshaw puller carries the burden of a city loaded with spirituality and all he gets in return is a meagre amount,which can’t buy him anything more than cheap rice. The lotas are used to carry the holy water and the brass here is symbolic of the wealthier lot.”The work is on display till April 30.
