The BJP has planned a long and hard road for their chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi. With only two weeks left for the Delhi Assembly elections, Bedi is expected to visit all 70 constituencies through roadshows.
At the election management committee meeting held at the party’s Pandit Pant Marg headquarters on Friday — which was attended by senior leaders and Bedi — it was decided that she will hold roadshows across the capital in the next 13 days, covering each constituency.
Party sources told Newsline that the target is to ensure that Bedi visits at least five constituencies a day, beginning with her own constituency — Krishna Nagar.
Sources said the idea is to ensure that all constituencies get a glimpse of their CM candidate, who is seen as a crusader for women’s security. While Bedi’s schedule is being prepared, sources said she will begin her day by spending four hours in her own constituency and spend the evening, between 5 pm and 10 pm, at five constituencies in each district.
“We have to ensure that each constituency gets an idea of who their CM candidate is. This will add impetus to the party’s image. If she visits each constituency, people will know who they are ultimately voting for. She is a strong face for the party and her presence will help garner votes,” a party leader said.
Party sources also said that roadshows are the best way to cover these constituencies, since it will attract more people and leave a better impact than a sabha.
“We will have different workers in-charge of each constituency, exclusively for Bedi’s roadshows. We have to ensure that each of her roadshows are well organised, since there is very little time before the polls. Each in-charge will be entrusted with the responsibility of mobilising voters and making sure that the roadshow is well conducted. We cannot miss a single constituency,” a leader said.
Bedi’s election office at Krishna Nagar will be inaugurated on Saturday. Additionally, she will hold roadshows in Dwarka and Rani Bagh.
