The residents’ welfare association (RWA) of an apartment in Greater Noida has imposed a dress code on its residents, urging them not to “roam around wearing lungis and nighties” on the society premises. "All of you are expected to pay special attention to your conduct and dress while walking in the Society so that no one has any objection to your behavior. Your boys and girls also learn from you, so all of you are requested not to roam around wearing lungi and nightie, which are home wear," read the circular by RWA of Himsagar Society in Phi-2 dated June 10. Meanwhile, the notice, signed by Hari Prakash, RWA secretary, has gone viral and social media users have sought the immediate removal of the notice. However, RWA president C K Kalra clarified that there was no intention to hurt anybody's feelings. "We had received complaints from a few women that people sit in the society campus wearing lungis, which does not look good. So we thought that it is better to issue a circular on this rather than talking to individual persons. It was just a request, not any order for the dress code. We asked that if people can avoid such clothes, it would be appropriate for others also," said Kalra. Meanwhile, the RWA has mentioned that it would issue a clarification on the matter to the residents. "People have fundamental rights. They can wear what they want. I am going to issue a clarification on this. Though I have been receiving messages from residents that it is a good move, people took it the other way," Kalra said.
