Call Records Special Cell to move against suspended cop,3 detectives.
The Special Cell is likely to file a chargesheet on Tuesday against suspended constable Arvind Dabas and three private detectives allegedly involved in accessing call detail records of BJP leader Arun Jaitley. Police sources said sections related to forgery will also be included in the chargesheet.
The other three persons to be chargesheeted along with Dabas are Anurag Singh,Nitish Singh and Neeraj Nayar. All four have also been booked for criminal conspiracy and cheating.
Police sources said the men were working together for Anurag Singh. Police claim that Singh, who ran a detective agency, used constable Dabas to dig out call detail records of several persons including Jaitley and former BJP president Nitin Gadkari.
Police claim that Singh was looking for a way to wriggle out of a 2006 case in which he had been booked for his alleged involvement in the illegal tapping of the mobile phone of former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
Anurag Singh was trying to find out who were the friends and foes of some leaders. This was one of the reasons why he had accessed the CDR and analysed calls made and received by these politicians. We have recovered enough evidence like CDR records from his laptop and hard disks which will be presented to the court, a senior police officer said.
Soon after the arrest of Dabas in February, his lawyer had said that his client was being falsely implicated and the police were trying to make it a high profile case.
Police claim that the racket of illegally accessing the CDRs had been operational for 9-10 months. The racket was busted when a mobile service provider checked with senior police officers if they had sought the call details of Jaitley.
Police discovered that the request for CDR had been made by Dabas who allegedly sent it from the email address of ACP (Operations) New Delhi district. Following Dabass arrest, police arrested Singh, the alleged mastermind.
The issue figured in Parliament during the budget session and the government promised that it would get full details about the call details of Jaitley being obtained without authorisation.
The government,Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde told Rajya Sabha, did not authorise anybody to intercept the telephone of Jaitley who is Leader of Opposition in the Upper House. This was not a case of telephone tapping. The Indian government is not tapping any members phone, Shinde said.
While assuring action against men arrested in connection with Jaitleys case,Shinde said the government will consider the suggestion of Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav to make it mandatory to seek the Rajya Sabha chairmans permission before call detail records of any member is obtained. He promised to write to the Telecom department in this regard.
