16 shops burgled in Sadar Bazaar
Nearly 16 shops were burgled in the commercial Sadar Bazaar in North Delhi on Monday night. Police said the shops were found burgled by their owners on Tuesday morning. Police officials said all shops are located in a five-storeyed shopping complex in Sri Ram market. The police said the locks of all the shops were forced open. Goods and cash worth Rs 2 lakh have been reported missing.
CM for naming panel
With new representations made almost everyday to name or rename a Metro station,Chief Minister has Sheila Dikshit has suggested constituting a naming committee to look into such demands. The chief ministers suggestion came after residents of Rampura in West Delhi sought to rename the Ashoka Park Metro station on the Inderlok-Mundka line to Rampura-Ashok Park Metro station. Last week,a delegation of the residents of Aya Nagar village in South Delhi had met Dikshit with the request to rename upcoming Arjan Garh Metro station on Central Secretariat-Gurgaon line.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has sent a warrant of distress to the bankers of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) after the cricket body failed to pay its property tax dues. The MCD has asked the Syndicate Banks IP Estate branch to attach a sum of Rs 78,72,584 that the MCD claims is owed by the DDCA. The DDCA,meanwhile,has a lodged an appeal against the warrant,both in the High Court and the MCD tribunal. The two will hear their appeal on Wednesday.
Goods worth lakhs stolen
Unidentified assailants stabbed a woman and looted her house in Sunlight Colony,Southeast Delhi,on Monday evening. The police said the victim,Aftana,was in the house with her three-year-old son when three assailants barged in. In another incident,cash and jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh was stolen from a house in Hari Nagar,West Delhi,on Tuesday. The police said Randhi Singh and his wife were at their offices when the unidentified assailants burgled the house. Cases have been registered in both the incidents.
Five snatchers arrested
Five members of a gang,who allegedly snatched chains and mortgaged them with finance companies to obtain loans,were arrested in the Capital,police said on Tuesday. The gang was also allegedly involved in robbery and vehicle theft in North,Northwest and Outer Delhi. The arrested have been identified as Rajender Prasad Bharti (25),Ravi Sharma (24),Sajid Ali (19),Sahil (19) and Saurav Sharma (25).
Solar power plant opens
NDPL launched a solar power plant at Pooth Khurd in Bawana on Tuesday. Funded partly by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy,the solar photovoltaic plant consists of modules that absorb sunlight and convert it into energy. NDPL is also setting up several other solar plants in its distribution network ranging from 25 KW-1 MW.
Car catches fire in Dwarka
A car caught fire in Dwarka area of Southwest Delhi on Monday night. According to the police,fire tenders took nearly half an hour to douse the flames. The police said initial probe revealed there was no engine in the car. Someone could have set the vehicle on fire to claim insurance as it was an old car, the police said.
Govt plans dialysis centre
The government informed the Delhi High Court on Tuesday that it would start a centre in South Delhis Sadiq Nagar by July-end to provide dialysis for treatment of HIV-positive patients. The centre would be set up in a tie-up with the Apollo Hospital. The court was hearing a petition by an underprivileged HIV patient who required dialysis.
