NOIDA: Even as the atmosphere remained tense,the Mayawati government imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Noida,forbidding the gathering of four or more persons in Gautam Budh Nagar. Officials said the order comes as a preventive measure by the UP government,following recent incidents of violence in Greater Noida. “The order will be in force for the next 60 days to prevent anti-social elements from taking advantage of the volatile situation. There has been a spate of protests building up in Meerut and Bagpat in Uttar Pradesh,so the issuance of the order is expected to maintain peace across the state,” said Noida SSP Jyoti Narayan.

St Stephen’s annoints new alumni executive

NEW DELHI: A new alumni executive was appointed for St Stephen’s College on Sunday. While former governor and police commissioner Ved Marwah is the president,Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi is the Vice-President. Co-founder of Perfect Relations Bobby Kewalramani was selected as the secretary. The national executive,which will “guide” the alumni,will include Delhi Lokayukta Manmohan Sarin,Delhi High Court judge Sanjay Kishen Kaul,Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar and Editor of Pioneer newspaper,Chandan Mitra.
