Bus runs over woman
A private bus ran over an elderly woman in Central Delhi on Monday afternoon,leaving her in a critical condition. Angry residents damaged the bus by pelting stones and tried to set it on fire. The woman,Bawani,70,was crossing the road with her granddaughter near Faiz Road. A police van rushed her to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where she later died. The driver managed to flee.
6 hurt as minibus turns turtle
Six persons were injured on Monday evening after a private minibus turned turtle on Tilak Marg. The minibus was carrying around 30 people who were returning after attending a taziya procession. The accident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle,which skidded,the police said. Police control room received a call at 10.30 pm.
Retired professor robbed
A retired professor of Jamia Millia Islamia was robbed of nearly Rs 10 lakh. The police suspect her domestic help had helped robbers get into her house. The incident took place around 10.30 am on Monday when Mohini Anjum was alone in her Surya Nagar home and assailants entered the house from the terrace. According to Anjum,an octogenarian,there were six robbers. Four had entered her house from the terrace and two entered with her domestic help,Gulbahar,said.
2 held for smuggling marijuana
Two men were arrested with a large consignment of marijuana in Southeast Delhi on Sunday. The accused were arrested from Sunlight Colony. Police have recovered 270 kilograms of marijuana,believed to be worth at least Rs 5 lakh. Police identified the duo as Om Prakash (29) and Jumman (26). Investigations are on.
Water supply to be affected
Water supply will be affected in several areas in the Capital for next two days due to work towards modernisation of distribution network. A Delhi Jal Board (DJB) official said water supply will be affected mainly in Najafgarh,Moti Nagar and adjoining areas due to installation of bulk metres.
Lok Adalat held
Providing relief to consumers from prolonged litigation,Tata-backed power discom NDPL has settled over 1,000 cases relating to power theft at a day-long Lok Adalat. The total settlement amount achieved was approximately Rs 4.17 crore,an official said.
