Postpone Ramlila fairs: Delhi Police
Security concerns over the Commonwealth Games has prompted the Delhi Police to ask organisers of Ramlila to reschedule the fairs associated with the festival. Ramlila coincides with the Games to be held in October this year. Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal said the force had not sought the postponement of Ramlila festivities. We are only asking that the fairs associated with the Ramlilas be rescheduled. The fairs have no religious relevance, he said. He also sought to contradict reports that the police had sought 25,000 passes for the Games. We have not asked for even one pass. We have asked for accreditation. The number is much less than that quoted in the media. Seventy-five per cent of these personnel will be deployed outside stadia. Our personnel will not have time to do frivolous things during the Games, he said.
Businessman shot at,Rs 8 lakh looted
Gurgaon: A 35-year-old businessman was shot at and robbed of Rs 8 lakh on Sheetla Mata Road on Wednesday morning. Sanjeev Sharma was on his way to office on a two-wheeler when three bike-borne men tried to snatch his hand-bag containing cash. When Sharma resisted,they fired at him. Sharma is undergoing treatment at Kalyani Hospital. The Gurgaon police have registered a case of robbery.
Resolve technical issues in bridge project: CM
The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday discussed the technical difficulties faced in the construction of the government’s ambitious project the Signature Bridge. A high-voltage electricity line reportedly passes above the site and needs to be removed urgently for the construction to begin. Shifting the line is a bit difficult,officials said. The Chief Minister has asked the ministers to solve the problem at the earliest.
Australian Federal Police chief meets Dadwal
Australian Federal Police Commissioner Tony Negus met his Delhi counterpart Y S Dadwal on Monday and had discussions related to the preparations for the Commonwealth Games to be held here in October. The Australian Police chief,who was in the capital for the inauguration of Australian Federal Police liaison office here,also discussed with Dadwal other law enforcement relationship matters between the two countries,said officials. Negus has reportedly expressed his satisfaction over the security arrangements for the Games.
HC: Show urgency in missing children cases
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the city police to give its urgent and immediate attention to the cases of missing children in the capital and ascertain if it was an organised crime. Chief Justice Dipak Misra,after perusing the report by the Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) said that the police must understand its obligation and not act in a routine manner in the case. The court has now sought a progress report from the police and from the DLSA within six weeks.
