Shakurpur death: 5 officials suspended
Five officials of the MCD have been suspended for unauthorisedly digging a ditch in a Shakurpur park where two children drowned to death on December 1. Municipal Commissioner K S Mehra suspended five officials of the Engineering and Horticulture departments (Rohini Zone) for digging the ditch without permission of senior officials. Mehra also directed the Chief Vigilance Officer to initiate penalty proceeding against them.
Transport awards
The Delhi government and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) on Saturday won national-level awards for two of their projects under the Awards for Excellence in Urban Transport Projects and Practices instituted by the Institute of Urban Transport (India). The awards were given for their project on Intelligent Public Transport System integrated with Passenger Information System under the category Best Intelligent Transport System Project and for the project on Cycle and Cycle Rickshaw friendly Delhi BRT corridor under the category of Best Cycle Rickshaw/Cycle Transport Project.
Charges framed
A CITY court framed charges against three of the five accused in IT executive Jigisha Ghoshs murder case on Saturday. The trial in the case will now begin from April next year. The court,meanwhile,deferred the hearing in Soumya Vishwanathans case after public prosecutor Rajeev Mohan submitted that he was not empowered to pursue the matter which was registered under MCOCA. The next date of hearing is January 25.
Passengers offloaded
An inebriated passenger and three others on board an Indigo flight were offloaded on Saturday evening after they reportedly misbehaved with the cabin crew just before the flight (6E 209) from Delhi to Kolkata was to take off.
Student found dead
A 23-year-old BTech student was found dead on Saturday evening near his house at Swarnjayantipuram near Kavi Nagar police station in Ghaziabad. The police said,the victim,Pratap Singh,received a call on his mobile phone around 6 pm and had left home while talking on the phone. His body,which bore several marks of stabbing,was later found nearly a kilometer away from Swarnjayantipuram apartments.
Three thieves held
The Delhi Police arrested three people for stealing car parts (ECM). The police said they were involved in the crime for the past four years. 31 ECMs were recovered after raids at Batla House and Jama Masjid area and 22 cases of ECM theft have been solved,the police said.
Bangla fest in Delhi
Seminars and discussions on modern Bangla literature,poetry sessions and programmes of baul (Bengali folk) songs will be highlights of a two-day Bengali festival Bahirbanga Utsav that started in the Capital on Saturday. On the first day,noted social scientist Ashish Nandi was felicitated.
