Man arrested for thefts at weddings
A man allegedly involved in thefts at marriage functions was arrested in South Delhi,the police claimed,adding that five stolen mobile phones were recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Vikram,a resident of Mehrauli,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said. The arrest followed a complaint filed by one Rajiv Bhardwaj from Jodhpur,Rajasthan,who claimed he lost two cellphones while attending a wedding at Baraat Ghar in Lodhi Colony on November 27. During investigations,it came to light that Vikram,who was out of jail at the time,could be behind the incident. After being apprehended,he confessed to the crime during questioning,said Dhaliwal. Vikram also told the police that he had rounded up a gang of minors who would visit marriage functions in Lodhi Colony and adjoining areas and steal mobile phones and purses of the guests.
DU appoints new Pro-VC,Dean of Colleges
The Executive Council of the Delhi University on Tuesday appointed Vivek Suneja,former Dean (Planning),as the new Pro-Vice Chancellor. Suneja is a professor at the Faculty of Management Studies at the Delhi University. Sudhish Pachauri,former Head of the Department of Hindi,was appointed the new Dean of Colleges. He replaces Nayanjyot Lahiri,professor of History. Umesh Rai,professor in the Department of Zoology,is the new Director of the South Campus. H P Singh from the Department of Physics and Astrophysics is the new Proctor.
