Police suspect ‘inside help’ in dacoity

NEW DELHI: Five persons barged into a house in Mandawali area of East Delhi on Thursday morning and held three women in the house,including the owner,hostage before fleeing with 500 gm of gold and Rs 4.5 lakh in cash. Police suspect that an insider may have provided information to the robbers,considering that they seemed to know the layout of the house and had struck when the male members of the house had left for office. The incident occurred at the house of 60-year-old Rama Aggarwal at Pandit Chowk. The other residents of the house are her two sons Ankur and Aakash,and the latter’s wife,who is currently put up at her parents’ house in Mathura. Her husband,Vinod Aggarwal,stays in Hardwar. Police are questioning the two housemaids,who were present when the dacoity occurred.

Two arrested in Ghaziabad for murdering youth

GHAZIABAD: Two persons have been arrested on charges of killing a 25-year-old man,the police said on Thursday. Pawan Sharma (28) and his brother-in-law,Rajesh Sharma (30),were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing Raju,who supposedly made sexual advances towards his sister and Rajesh’s wife,Anju,they said. On October 23,the two asked Anju to call Raju to a particular spot where they shot him dead. His body was later dumped in a forested area near Muradnagar,the police said. Both the accused have confessed to the crime,and have been remanded in judicial custody.

BRPL inks agreement with IIT-Kanpur for distribution tech

New Delhi: Discom BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur “to facilitate cutting-edge research in the realm of power distribution,and optimise and improve the quality of power delivery by leveraging next-generation research and technology”. IIT Kanpur will also train and equip engineers from BRPL with high-tech equipment and tools. The MoU will initially be valid for a period of three years. Both BRPL and IIT-Kanpur will appoint one principal project investigator each to coordinate for the project,with assistance from project-specific teams. The cost of the projects will be borne by BRPL.

EC launches Web-based electoral software

New Delhi: A new Web-based software on Electoral Roll Management System (ERMS) for Haryana was launched by Election Commissioner of India H S Brahma at a state-level workshop of election-related functionaries held in Gurgaon on Thursday. The new software will be made functional during the revision of the voters’ list in November,after which any person above 18 years of age can apply on the website of CEO Haryana for addition,deletion or correction of names in the list or the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC). The Electoral Registration Officer concerned will then download the application and give it to the Booth-Level Officer for verification of facts.
