After Delhi,Noida to get high-end surveillance system

Noida will soon get a high-end surveillance system meant to check both traffic violations and instances of crime.

Noida will soon get a high-end surveillance system meant to check both traffic violations and instances of crime. A core committee set up for the purpose, comprising officials of the Noida Authority, members of the district administration and Gautam Buddha Nagar police said that they will release an “expression of interest”,inviting companies to bid for the implementation of the Integrated Security Surveillance System (IS3). Senior officials of the Noida Authority said that the project has been tentatively budgeted at Rs 85 crore.

Senior officials of the Noida Authority said that initially the project, the consultant for which is Ernst and Young, will initially be tested in a 25 sq km area. “The system will see several hundred security cameras being installed at strategic points. The exact number of cameras is being worked out at the moment. This will not only increase the security but also help in the investigation of crimes. The traffic police can also closely monitor the situation on the roads through the system,” a senior police officer said.

Under IS3,senior officers said that three kinds of cameras will be installed in Noida. “The cameras will be fixed,Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) and Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. The fixed and PTZ cameras will be placed near government institutions and public places, and ANPR cameras will monitor traffic situations. The cameras will also help in instances when disasters have to be managed,” Sandeep Chandra, senior project engineer, said.

Officials said that the spots where these cameras will be set up will be picked after extensive survey by a team of officials of the Noida Authority and the district police. “For the pilot project,we will set up cameras from the Noida entrance right upto Mahamaya flyover,as well as Udyog Vihar. Cameras will also be put up on border points. Each camera will have a backup and will be controlled at a command station. This station will initially be located at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police on a temporary basis. Later a surveillance centre will be set up at the multi-level parking establishment at the Botanical Garden Metro station,” a senior police officer said.
