A school spokesperson, meanwhile, said on Tuesday, “Police are investigating the matter, and we are cooperating with the police and the family. All CCTV footage has been submitted to the police”The Noida Police on Tuesday registered a case against the management of Presidium School in Sector 31 after a 10-year-old Class 6 student died on campus on September 4.
Police said the case was lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by Tripta Sharma, the girl’s mother. Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 20 police station, Dharmprakash Shukl, said that in her complaint, Sharma had accused the school management of gross negligence and delay in shifting the child to a hospital. “We have lodged a FIR against the school administration, the principal and the school staff on the basis of a report submitted by the DIOS (District Inspector of Schools),” he added.
“Doctors had suggested the possibility of a brain haemorrhage, though the exact cause of death remains under investigation. Her viscera samples have been preserved for forensic analysis,” a senior officer said.
The FIR was lodged after Sharma on Monday posted a video on social media seeking clarity on what happened to her daughter in her final moments.
In the message, Sharma alleged that her daughter was “brought dead” to a private hospital on September 4.“…What happened to my daughter in her final moments? As a mother, I deserve to know. I deserve honesty…”
“It has been 15 days since my daughter passed away. The school is supposed to be a safe place, a second home…,” Sharma added, alleging that neither the police nor the school have responded to her queries. The girl’s uncle, Vaibhav Sharma, also alleged delay in treatment. “Instead of immediately taking her to the hospital, she was first treated in the school medical room. This delay… resulted in her death.”
A school spokesperson, meanwhile, said on Tuesday, “Police are investigating the matter, and we are cooperating with the police and the family. All CCTV footage has been submitted to the police.”
Earlier, the school administration had said that some food particle got stuck in the child’s throat during lunch on September 4.
The police, in an earlier statement, had said that on September 4, after having lunch, the child used the washroom and after coming out, collapsed near the stairs. “She was rushed to Kailash Hospital where she was declared brought dead. Postmortem report had shown no external injuries… The exact cause of death is still uncertain, so the viscera has been preserved,” a senior officer had said.
When contacted, Noida DIOS Rajesh Kumar Singh said the spot where the incident took place was not covered by any CCTV camera. “While inspecting the school, it was found that it did not have 360-degree CCTV camera coverage. The spot where the incident took place was not covered by any camera.”
Speaking to The Indian Express, Child Welfare Committee chairman K C Virmani said that a week ago, the mother had filed a written complaint in the matter. “We had sent a notice to the police, asking them to register a case. We had also asked for a detailed report on her death.”
